The details of my past are quite inconsequential...

I'm a veldspar miner's son. My father spent his life out here buring away at rock, while mum watched us kids. He died when I was still a young lad - so my memories of him I know ars smoothed with time's hands so the imperfections are spread thin. And glossed to a high gleam.

Mum did the best she could with us - she wanted academy for all of my siblings and I - but we had too much of our father's blood and not enough of our mothers.

One by one my older siblings came out here to find their fortunes... and found nothing but sorrow and pain. My eldest sister was the only one with sense enough to see the futility of the family business, and took up a corporate job in
