On the evening of 10 October the system of New Caldari, a place that rarely makes headlines, turned into a brawl. Our battle report counts 58 killmails, 236 pilots and about 18.3 billion ISK destroyed in roughly two and a half hours. The fight started as a thread on r/Eve from a player who had never seen anything like it and asked what had happened.
The numbers
We rebuilt the fight on capsuleers.app: full battle report. The window runs from 19:00 to 21:30 UTC on 10 October, in New Caldari. The shooting was concentrated after 19:30 UTC.
Synergy of Steel and Sedition. 157 pilots (129 Synergy of Steel, 28 Sedition.), 34 kills, 20 losses, 8.56 billion ISK destroyed and 4.53 billion ISK lost.
Something Really Pretentious and Blackflag. 79 pilots (40 SRP, 39 Blackflag.), 22 kills, 35 losses, 9.77 billion ISK destroyed and 8.56 billion ISK lost.
Total. 58 killmails, 236 pilots, 18.34 billion ISK destroyed.
The team split is the one computed by the report tool. A few killmails involve third parties, so the two columns do not add up exactly to the total. Numbers from other sites will differ, because they are calculated differently.
Who was there
The only source on the identities is the thread itself. The original poster shared a screenshot of the battle, and a commenter named the two sides: Sedition and Synergy of Steel on one side, Blackflag and Something Really Pretentious on the other. The killmail data confirms exactly those four alliances. The battle report shows Synergy of Steel as the biggest contingent, with 129 pilots.
Why they were fighting: an unconfirmed story
The reason is where the sources stop agreeing, so treat this part carefully. One commenter in the thread claims the fight came from a war declaration, and says it started because a player was not invited to a Minecraft server. Others in the thread joked about it. We could not find the war declaration itself, or any statement from the alliances involved, so we cannot confirm who declared war on whom, or why. What we can say is that the fight happened and that the numbers above are real.
It is worth remembering the context. Since patch 24.01, a war declaration costs 500 million ISK instead of 100 million. We covered the change in our Cradle of War patch notes article. Whether this fight is a result of that change is not something the sources say, and we are not claiming it.
What players said
The tone in the comments was relaxed. One pilot who flew in the fight wrote "We fought, I died, it was great, 10/10". Another said he was doing "garbage cleanup" and that the lag was heavy. A third commenter said the lack of fights between the big blocs makes this kind of side conflict welcome: "if it takes a Minecraft server invite to create big fleet content then so be it".
