What is the Intel Scan?

The Intel Scan is a free tool on Capsuleers.App that analyzes the two things every EVE Online pilot copies when something is about to happen: the directional scanner (D-Scan) results and the Local member list. You paste either one, the format is recognised as you paste, and the report is ready in a second or two. No account is needed to analyze or share.

A D-Scan becomes a line to read on comms, the ships grouped by class with what is on your grid and what is elsewhere in the system, and, when three celestials are in range, your estimated position on a map of the system. A Local becomes alliances, corporations and 90 days of combat intel for each pilot, taken from the Capsuleers.App killmail archive. Both scans can live in the same report and travel together in one share link.

How do I paste a D-Scan or Local into the Intel Scan?

The Intel Scan on Capsuleers.App recognises a D-Scan or a Local as soon as you paste it. Press Ctrl+V anywhere on the page and the text lands in the paste box, with a chip naming the format, the number of rows read and the first lines exactly as they will be analyzed. A wrong copy shows up here, before you press anything. A D-Scan copy has four columns (type ID, name, type, distance); a Local copy can be as simple as one pilot name per line. The sample button loads a real fleet scanned in Tama, so you can see a full report without a scan of your own. Nothing is sent or stored at this stage: the paste is read and previewed in your browser, only the names or type IDs found in it are sent to be looked up when you press Analyze, and the report is saved only if you later press Share report.

How to use it

  1. Copy the D-Scan results (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C) or select the pilots in the Local member list and copy them.
  2. Press Ctrl+V anywhere on the page — the text lands in the box even without clicking it.
  3. Check the chip («D-Scan detected» or «Local detected») and the preview, then press Analyze or Ctrl+Enter.

How do I read a D-Scan out on comms?

The first thing an Intel Scan D-Scan report gives you is one line to read out in fleet: ships on scan and on grid, capitals by name, then the other hulls from the biggest threat down, and the bubbles on grid. Capitals are written in red so they cannot be missed. Under the line, five tiles count ships, ships on grid, capitals, logistics and interdiction. A ship with a distance in the scan is on your grid; a ship with a dash is elsewhere in the system, and the report counts the two apart so a distant fleet is not mistaken for a threat at your door. Press Copy for comms to put the line in the clipboard and paste it into fleet chat or Discord.

  1. Analyze a D-Scan.
  2. Read the «Comms read-out» panel, or press «Copy for comms» and paste it in fleet chat.
  3. Use the tiles for the quick numbers: how many are on your grid and how many off grid.

How do I see which ships are on my grid?

The Intel Scan groups every hull of a D-Scan by class, capitals first, in the Fleet composition panel. Each class has a bar split between ships on your grid and ships elsewhere in the system. The Ships table lists each hull with its class, count and nearest distance, and the All, On grid and Off grid switch in its header narrows it in one click. Structures, deployables and celestials are kept apart in an Also on scan panel, so they do not inflate the fleet count, and bubbles on grid are flagged there. Use it to answer the questions a scout is asked first: how many are really here, which are capitals, and what is only passing through the system.

How to use it

  1. Scroll to «Fleet composition» for the classes, or to «Ships» for the single hulls.
  2. In the Ships header pick «All», «On grid» or «Off grid».
  3. Structures, deployables and celestials sit apart in «Also on scan», with bubbles on grid flagged.

How do I find where a D-Scan was taken?

The Intel Scan works out the system from the celestials in a D-Scan and, using the distances to three of them, places the scanner on a map of the system: sun, planets, gates, your ship and the range you scanned with. Three celestials in range are needed, so a scan with only ships names no system. The map has a 2D top-down view and a 3D view you can tilt; drag to move or rotate, scroll to zoom, the crosshair resets the view and the arrows open it full screen. The position is an estimate on the orbital plane: the height above it cannot be measured from a D-Scan. Scan with planets or moons in range and you also see on which side of the system the fleet sits.

  1. Scan with planets or moons in range, then analyze.
  2. In «Where the scan was taken» switch between 2D and 3D; drag to move or rotate, scroll to zoom.
  3. The crosshair button resets the view; the arrows open the map full screen.

How do I check who is in Local?

Paste a Local into the Intel Scan and it shows who is in the system: pilots, alliances and corporations, a bar with each alliance's share, and a table built from 90 days of killmails in the Capsuleers.App archive. For each pilot you see kills and losses, efficiency, how often they fly in a gang, cyno risk and the hulls used recently. A pilot has cyno risk when a cyno was fitted on at least 30% of their losses, and counts as mostly solo when under 30% of their kills came in a gang. The tiles at the top summarise it; Cyno risk and No intel are the two that matter most. No intel means no killmails in 90 days, which is not the same as harmless.

  1. In the Local window select the members (Ctrl+A in the list) and copy them.
  2. Paste and press Analyze.
  3. Read the tiles first: «Cyno risk» and «No intel» are the two that matter most.

How do I filter Local by alliance or corporation?

Once a Local is analyzed, the Alliances and corporations tree on the left of the Intel Scan narrows the pilot table to one alliance or to one of its corporations. Clicking an alliance shows only its pilots and opens it on its corporations; clicking a corporation narrows further; All of Local brings everyone back. The chips above the table add a second filter: pilots with cyno risk, pilots who are mostly solo, or pilots with no intel. Combined, they answer questions such as which pilots of the biggest alliance in system carry a cyno, or who has no history at all. The alliance share bar and the tiles keep describing the whole Local, so you always see the full picture while you filter.

  1. Click an alliance in the tree: the table shows only its pilots and the alliance opens on its corporations.
  2. Click a corporation to narrow further.
  3. Click «All of Local» to go back to everyone.

Can I analyze a D-Scan and a Local in one report?

D-Scan and Local are two tabs of the same Intel Scan report. After analyzing the first scan, the tab of the missing one shows a plus: press it, paste the other scan and both stay together, ready to share in a single link. A new D-Scan replaces the old D-Scan and a new Local replaces the old Local, so two positions or two moments are never summed into a fleet that does not exist. It is the natural way to work: paste the D-Scan to see what is on grid, add the Local to see who flies it, and read the whole picture from one page.

How to use it

  1. Analyze the first scan.
  2. Press the tab with the plus («+ Local» or «+ D-Scan») in the bar under the title.
  3. Paste the second scan and press Analyze: the report now has both tabs.

How do I share a scan report?

Share report in the Intel Scan saves the report and copies a link to the clipboard. Whoever opens it sees the same tabs, the same map and the same pilot intel, and Discord shows a preview card with the link. No account is needed to share. Nothing you paste is stored until you press the button, and share pages are not indexed by search engines. New scan clears the page for the next report. Use the link when the other pilots are not in your fleet; for pilots in your fleet there is a faster way that needs no link.

How to use it

  1. With a report open, press «Share report» in the bar under the title.
  2. The link is copied to the clipboard: paste it in fleet chat or on Discord.
  3. «New scan» clears the page for the next report.

How do I send a scan to my fleet?

If you are signed in with EVE and one of your characters is in a fleet, the Intel Scan paste box shows a Share with the fleet switch. With it on, every scan you analyze reaches the pilots of that fleet on their Live Map and in Fleet Ops, without a link. The site asks ESI which fleet your character is in, so nothing reaches pilots outside it. A bar under the report confirms the scan was shared and lets you withdraw it. This is the only part of the tool that needs an EVE login and the fleet service on your character; analyzing and sharing by link work without an account.

How to use it

  1. Sign in with EVE Online and enable the fleet service on the character.
  2. Join a fleet in game: the switch appears under the paste box with the character it uses.
  3. Leave it on and analyze: a bar under the report confirms it was shared, with «Withdraw» to take it back.

Frequently asked questions

How do I copy a D-Scan in EVE Online?

Open the directional scanner, run the scan, click in the results and press Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C. The copy has four columns (type ID, name, type, distance), which is exactly what the Intel Scan on Capsuleers.App reads. Paste it with Ctrl+V anywhere on the page.

How do I copy Local?

In the Local chat window select the pilots in the member list (click one, then Ctrl+A) and press Ctrl+C. One name per line is enough; a copy with corporation and alliance columns is recognised too. Paste it into the Intel Scan and press Analyze.

Does the Intel Scan work with a narrowed D-Scan range or angle?

Yes. Range and angle change what is on scan, not the format of the copy, so the Intel Scan reads it the same way. The map draws the range you actually used.

Why does the Intel Scan say the system was not recognised?

Because the system is read from the celestials on scan, and a scan with only ships, or with no planets and moons in range, does not name a system. Scan once with planets in range, and with three celestials the map also places your position.

Where does the Intel Scan get its pilot intel?

From the Capsuleers.App killmail archive, covering the last 90 days. A pilot with no killmails in that window shows No intel, which does not mean harmless. Cyno risk means a cyno was fitted on at least 30% of the pilot's losses.

Is my D-Scan or Local saved?

No. Nothing you paste into the Intel Scan is stored until you press Share report, and share pages are not indexed by search engines.

Do I need to log in to use the Intel Scan?

No. Analyzing and sharing work without an account. Signing in with EVE is only needed to send scans straight to your fleet.
