Born blind, Elorena - "Rena" to her friends - snuck into her fathers old Velator that he just couldn't find the heart to get rid of and discovered the joy of sight for the first time. She convinced her father to let her undergo the tests for capsuleers and when she passed the biological and psychological test by a large margin her Father couldn't say no to her.
She served as one of her father's freight pilots for a number of years before he was convinced she could make it on her own. When he thought she was ready, he gave her some money, and a Velator she set out on her own to make her way in the universe.
