Amarr Loyalist — Gallente Federation Militia
Capsuleer | Independent Royalist
James IV is an Amarr-born capsuleer of aristocratic lineage, raised within the traditions of the Amarr Empire but increasingly alienated by the rigid hierarchy, political corruption, and institutional dogma of Imperial society.
A descendant of an ancient royal bloodline, James considers himself a monarchist first and an Imperial subject second. To him, sovereignty is not synonymous with obedience, and faith does not require submission to every institution claiming to act in its name.
His relationship with the Amarr Empire therefore became complicated.
James retains many of the traditions of Amarr civilisation: its devotion to ceremony, dynastic legitimacy, hierarchy, military discipline and the preservation of ancient institutions. Yet he rejects the Empire's treatment of conquered peoples and its use of religion as an instrument of political authority.
His break with Imperial politics was cemented during the escalating conflict with the Gallente Federation.
Rather than accept the simple Imperial narrative that the Federation represents decadence and disorder, James came to regard the Gallente ideal of individual liberty as possessing a fundamental legitimacy of its own.
He eventually entered the Gallente Federation Navy's militia, placing himself directly against the interests of the Empire in which he had been raised. This is not a rejection of Amarr civilisation. It is a rejection of Imperial absolutism.
I remain openly Amarr in culture and outlook, but fights under the Federation banner because he believes that a sovereign individual should have the right to determine his own allegiance. I respect tradition while opposing institutions that have allowed tradition to become tyranny.
To his allies, this makes him an unusual but valuable militia officer. To the Amarr, it makes him a traitor. To the Gallente, he is an eccentric Imperial aristocrat who somehow ended up fighting for the Federation. James himself considers the matter considerably simpler: An empire has no legitimacy if it cannot protect the freedom of the people beneath it.
