Clash at Atioth
news

Clash at Atioth

There is nothing quite like war in New Eden. The planning, logistics, leadership, and tenacity behind EVE’s largest conflicts continue to produce moments that feel impossible until you make them real.

Last week, the Imperium declared war on WinterCo, and it did not take long for the first great clash in this war to materialize in Atioth. The system has historically seen a lot of conflict between Imperium and WinterCo forces, with large fights breaking out as recently as February between the two powers.

Geographically, Atioth is significant as an entry point into WinterCo territory in Geminate, so it makes sense for it to become the first real focal point in this conflict. For the Imperium, a Keepstar in Atioth is a significant strategic beachhead and fit for an opening salvo. Likewise, it’s an equally logical place for Winter Coalition to mount a response, not only to push their advantage but to set the tone for future fights.

Geminate - Clash at Atioth

The Imperium went with a show of force, placing their supercapital and capital fleet on the anchoring Keepstar to protect it. WinterCo adopted a zerg-rush strategy, preparing thousands upon thousands of Vexors to chip the Keepstar down bit by bit.

While the tactics were worlds apart, the preparation and organization were similar. Both sides took deliberate efforts to manage conditions at the start of the engagement. Fighter and drone deployments were staggered in an attempt to reduce the immediate strain on the server node.

server node - Clash at Atioth

And as the timer approached, numbers continued to rise. At ~16:30 UTC over 6,500 people were in system, and it just kept climbing. Past 7,000. Past 8,000. Over 9,000, up to a maximum population of 10,253, shattering the previous Guinness World Record of 6,557 characters brawling over a Keepstar during The Fury at FWST-8. Once again showing the scale EVE players are willing to reach when the stakes are high enough.

Ambition and EVE players, name a more iconic duo.

  10,253: A Space Oddity

At this scale, battles stop being ordinary in every possible sense. The combined weight of thousands of ships, countless modules cycling, fighters moving, drones deploying, commands relayed, bubbles dropped, reinforcements arriving, and decisions being made across an enormous web of coordination all put enormous pressure on the simulation.

These numbers are extraordinary, and extraordinary numbers in New Eden have a way of pushing performance into unknown territory. When fights hit this scale, there is only so much that either side of a fight, or CCP Games, can predict ahead of time. Just minutes before the Keepstar was due to online, the node hosting Atioth – which was reinforced and isolated from the rest of New Eden - collapsed under that pressure. At 18:26 the last heartbeat was acknowledged from the node, at 18:29 the node had terminated, and by 18:35 clients in Atioth began to disconnect.

Character population of atioth

Almost immediately the system was automatically remapped to another dedicated node. This was followed by login trouble for some players, while the battle raged around them. Some pilots were able to return sooner than others, especially those coming from different systems. Others found themselves facing long loading times, uncertain outcomes, and the reality that the fight was still evolving while they struggled to get back into the game. We even saw some new things happen, like sovereignty reverting to a state from earlier in the day. While a bit weird, our engineers now understand the exact circumstances that can cause this, and our teams are able to rectify this in the future.

In situations like this, our guiding principle has always been to get involved as little as possible and let the simulation stand on its own. Given the way EVE’s economy and wars are structured, it is vital to us that we remain as fair and consistent as possible for everyone involved. After reviewing what happened in this fight, that is the approach we are taking here as well. That said, battles at this scale are inherently unpredictable, so we still carry out a thorough post-mortem review to understand what happened and decide, case by case, whether any response is needed.

Since this conflict is only in the early stages, more large-scale engagements are almost certainly still to come. As always, if you are planning or expecting a major engagement, please make sure to submit a fleet fight reinforcement request at least one downtime before your fight. Reinforcement remains one of the most important tools available for helping us prepare a system for extreme player concentration and for giving these fights the best chance of running as smoothly as possible under heavy load. We know this isn’t always possible and will work with FCs and leaders to facilitate emergency remaps, but the fleet fight notification tool remains the best and most reliable way to have a beefier node to brawl on.

The Next Milestone

The pilots of New Eden have always found ways to reach higher, and EVE has grown alongside them.

Players push the envelope of what is possible, and we continue working to improve performance with better hardware, better software, and changes to the systems that shape these battles. As EVE players continue to create larger wars and bigger fights, those battles keep bringing the game into new territory.

battle of atioth ships

More than 10,000 players in one system is an extraordinary milestone. Nearly 10 trillion ISK destroyed in the first major clash of a new war is another. Together, they make Atioth one of those battles that immediately earns a place in the history of New Eden, and a clear sign that this conflict is only just getting started. You can see where Atioth sits in relation to other historic EVE fights:

We salute the pilots who formed, traveled, fought, logged back in, and kept the battle going deep into the following day.

This is one of the reasons EVE remains singular in the world of MMOs. When players choose to go all in, they do so at a scale that keeps redefining what “massively multiplayer” can mean. That work does not stop. Battles like this are exactly the kind of events that drive us to continue improving EVE’s performance , alongside your own tenacity.   Community Links & Resources:

Fanfest: Lava Tunnel Tour Now on Sale

Fanfestive capsuleers,

Pilots landing in Iceland for Fanfest 2026 have a unique opportunity to venture into the Lava Tunnel in a very special EVE-themed tour at Raufarhólshellir.

You may remember this lava tunnel from last November, when CCP TV broadcast live from the Lava Tunnel to celebrate the launch of the Catalyst expansion.

Lava cave stream

The experience begins with transport from Harpa and a guided journey into Raufarhólshellir, where expert guides will take you through the geology, history, and unique formations of this ancient lava tunnel before the environment shifts into an immersive EVE-Themed light and music experience deep underground. After the tour, you will have the chance to sample a limited edition Catalyst Gin.

About the Catalyst Gin

The experience also includes a tasting hosted by Mosi Gin inside the tunnel itself, where their expressions age in the cool, stable air of the cave. One of the barrels used was even part of the original Catalyst livestream, making this a fitting follow-up for capsuleers who remember that moment.

Limited release. Singular taste. Born at the Mosi Weathering Station inside Raufarhólshellir.

Introducing Exordium
news

Introducing Exordium

Hospitable capsuleers,

We are always looking for ways to improve the early game experience, because although New Eden is a vast and deep world, full of beauty, freedom, and intrigue, it can also be intimidating for new players.

To help rookies learn the ropes, make friends, and prepare for their full EVE experience, the upcoming expansion will introduce a dedicated starter region named Exordium.

A Journey of a Thousand Lightyears…

You may remember what it was like to be a wide-eyed newbie seeing the world of New Eden for the first time. Every bit of improvement we can make to support new capsuleers means more players will make it past those initial intimidating steps to eventually experience everything that EVE has to offer.

As most veterans know, getting more new players benefits New Eden as a whole. It means more recruits for your corporations and alliances, more customers for your market orders, more good fights in the warzones, and more new friends to meet at the Fanfest pub crawl.

make the most out of your stay fanfest

We have had many discussions and brainstorming sessions over the years about improving the new player experience, both internally and externally, with many of you. An idea that has cropped up regularly is adding a “starter zone” to New Eden, where rookies can begin their journey together in a space designed specifically for them.

This idea will become reality with the introduction of Exordium.

Hit New Eden at Warp Speed

Currently, new players are distributed across multiple systems when first starting out, spread across highsec, determined by their choices at character creation. This has major downsides.

For instance, when two friends decide to try EVE Online together, different choices of empire or school can leave them starting the game dozens of jumps apart, making it much more difficult to find each other and play together.

This current distribution of starter systems also reduces new players' exposure to one another, and we believe they would benefit from being able to more easily encounter and connect with others at a similar stage in their EVE journey.

Air trade hub construction

Starting this summer, all new players will begin the game in Exordium, which contains new starter and career agent systems within a single 53 system region. The region is managed by CONCORD with assistance from AIR, and connected to special empire embassy constellations.

Placing all new players in the same region will give them opportunities to meet other rookies, and create a great environment for corporation recruitment and mentorship by existing players. It will also mean that players can more easily reach their friends.

Putting Exordium on the Map

Exordium Map -

“But wait,” I hear you exclaim. “If rookies will be spread out over 53 systems, how is that going to bring them closer together?”

Well, the primary hub system of Exordium, known as Manifest, is centrally located and within easy reach of all the other systems in the region. It includes a new AIR Trade Center station, which will serve as an excellent meeting and trade location, as well as the stargate to Yulai that will serve as the primary entry and exit point for Exordium.

The central CONCORD constellations contain the 12 new starter systems, into which new players will be dynamically placed as they finish the AIR NPE. These starter systems are no longer split by empire. Instead, rookies will be placed based on the load of each system, so the new region can dynamically adjust to accommodate periods of high newbie influx.

A Safe Space to Learn

PvP is a core element of the EVE Online experience and provides a crucial portion of the cycle of creation and destruction that drives New Eden’s economy. However, it can be stressful to know you’re at risk of PvP engagement before you’ve had a chance to learn the ropes, from basic movement controls to the major game systems and how they interact with each other.

Currently, new players in EVE are afforded a measure of protection from PvP while in the starter systems, career agent systems, and SoE epic arc systems, by a rule posted on our support website, and more generally by the fact that new players usually don’t carry valuable items that make them worthwhile targets for “suicide ganking”. (Of course, this doesn’t mean they are never targeted, just that it is quite uncommon.)

However, new players do not know this, and will often have read stories about how ruthless and cutthroat New Eden can be, or even specific stories of new players being destroyed in highsec space. This means that some new players are learning the basics of EVE Online under a cloud of anxiety, knowing that another player could show up and attack them at any time.

Exordium will have a new “starter space” security tier that completely prevents PvP within its borders. While players are in Exordium, their safety will be locked to green, and other normal methods of legal engagement in highsec, such as limited engagements, wars, and factional warfare, will not apply.

This is intended to provide new players with a secure environment to learn the game without needing to worry about PvP risk yet, to prepare them to continue their adventure by journeying into highsec and beyond.

To make the difference between this new security tier and highsec space clearer, Exordium systems will be set to 1.0 security status and all other systems that are currently 1.0 will be changed to 0.9 security.

The new security tiers will be:

  • 1.0 – Starter Space (Exordium)
  • 0.9-0.5 – Highsec
  • 0.4-0.1 – Lowsec
  • 0.0 and below – Nullsec

Exordium will also have several restrictions and limitations to preserve EVE Online’s balance. These include a curated set of PvE content available, higher taxes, decreased opportunities for value creation for most activities, and blocks that prevent use of player-controlled structures and deployables.

Low Risk, Low Rewards

With the huge variety of content available in New Eden, new players sometimes struggle to find appropriate challenges for their current level.

Within Exordium, all content presented will be achievable for rookie capsuleers. They can experience a wide variety of different activities, including combat, hacking, and mining sites, low-level missions, homefront operations, and more. Difficulty and rewards will be tuned to suit a starter region.

Exordium will also introduce newcomers to the lore and story of New Eden, deepening their immersion in the world.

The ability to curate the content available in Exordium also helps us balance risk with reward. For example, all the ore found within Exordium will be new “tier 0” variants of veldspar and scordite that can be balanced independently.

All hacking sites are also special variants of existing highsec sites with independently balanced loot tables.

Homefront operations will also have a different reward curve with lower overall payouts.

In addition, special taxes will be applied to most taxable activities in Exordium.

The curated content and taxes are intended to create a space where new players can be confident that the content they are presented with has difficulty and rewards appropriate for their level in New Eden, and that more lucrative rewards will be available to them once they’re ready to move into highsec and beyond.

Mentors and Mentees Rejoice!

Exordium is built for new players, but veteran players are also welcome to visit the region to meet and mentor new potential friends and corpmates.

Whether this takes the form of roaming starter systems with a magic school bus full of free ships like Mike Azariah, running public new player fleets for PvP or incursions like Kshal Aideron and the EVE Rookies community, or creating freelance jobs aimed at new players and offering the outstanding performers invitations to your corporations, the much more compact layout of the newbie systems in Exordium should hopefully be a major boon to all of our friendly neighborhood capsuleer mentors.

To assist with corporation recruitment and freelance job broadcasting, the region layout has been designed with a central hub system that will have additional office slots, and that will be within four jumps of every other system in the region.

We’re very interested in hearing from all existing players who participate in mentorship and new-player-focused communities, as well as from recruiters at corporations that welcome new players, about what we can do to help make this new region an even better place for you to meet and support rookies.

The Road to Exordium

Starter Space - 1920x1080

The new systems within Exordium already exist but are not yet accessible to players. To help mitigate any risk to New Eden’s stability on expansion day, the starter systems are introduced in phases.

Sometime before Fanfest, the new region will open for visits. At that point, players will be able to enter, explore the new space, and check out the new security tier, but the content will not be in there yet.

With the expansion release, the remaining content will be added to Exordium, and we will begin sending all new players there. Any capsuleers who have entered EVE before the expansion will continue their new player journey using the existing systems spread around highsec.

We look forward to hearing from you on the EVE forum or the EVE Discord and discussing your thoughts on the new region, including what you would like to see added in future expansions. We also look forward to showing you more at Fanfest and discussing this with many of you in person!

Fly safe.

NES Sale: Save up to 70%
news

NES Sale: Save up to 70%

NES Sale: Save up to 70%

Value-seeking capsuleers,

Recently, we posted about two principles we have put in place for monetization in EVE: value over FOMO and PLEX as a fluid currency powering the economy of New Eden.

This means simpler offers, clearer value, and more reasons for PLEX to move through the ecosystem rather than sit idle. Now it is time to put that setup to the test.

From 11 to 21 April, the New Eden Store will feature discounts across nearly the entire catalogue, with the exception of Omega and apparel. The goal is simple: strong value on smaller utility items, meaningful discounts on bigger purchases, and enough variety that most players can find something useful:

  • Accelerators — 2 for 1
  • Alpha Injectors — 3 for 1
  • Multiple Character Training — 40% off
  • Skill Extractors — 3 for 2
  • Mastery Packs — 20% off
  • Boost Bundles — 25% off
  • Expert Systems — bundled together, 30% off
  • Career Packs — 2 for 1
  • Pilot’s Body Resculpt Certificate — 50% off
  • Older SKINs — in bundles up to 70% off
  • HyperCores — 3 for 1

Omega itself returns in the more stable bundle structure through the regular Omega + PLEX deal in the EVE Store, in line with the direction we outlined previously.

Why These Offers

The lineup is designed to cover a broad range of needs:

  • Accelerators, Injectors, MCT, Skill Extractors and Mastery Packs support progression and character planning.
  • Boost Bundles, Expert Systems, and Career Packs lower the cost of trying roles, activities, and focused goals.
  • Pilot Resculpt and older SKINs improve access to identity and customization.
  • HyperCores support players who actively use the HyperNet feature.

This is not just about a sale, but about how we’re implementing the principles we’ve been telling you about.

PLEX works best when it is fluid: traded, spent, and available when capsuleers want to use it. One of the strengths of a major NES event is that it is accessible not only to players spending real money directly but also to those acquiring PLEX through the in-game market.

This only works well if the PLEX supply on the market remains healthy. That is why this NES event is paired with support on the supply side as well. Alongside the sale, the Omega + PLEX deals will return, and the ongoing PLEX sale has been extended until 14 April, 23:59 UTC. We have also recently introduced bulk discounts on PLEX and added AliPay and WeChat Pay in major territories, helping more players get access more easily.

This is a test, not a destination, and we’d rather learn in the open with clear goals than pretend we have a perfect setup from day one.

We will be closely watching uptake, PLEX market activity, and your feedback. Depending on how this performs, we may build on some of these ideas further in both the NES and the EVE Store.

For the benefit of all, as they say on Earth.

Community Beat for 10 April

o7 Spacefriends!

From the Gallente Federation’s final campaign scramble to major player events, gorgeous community art, new war coverage, clever utility sites, and a charity streaming push worth rallying behind, this week’s Community Beat is stacked. Here’s what’s been happening, and what you should keep an eye on over the weekend.

So many activities! Crack open a Quafe, relax, and let's get to it! (not #sponsored)

Gallente Madness

The Gallente Elections are heading into their last stretch, and the stakes have only gone up. With the final week now live, there is fresh event content, more reasons to log in and take part, and plenty of room for capsuleers to help shape how this story closes out.

If you want a clear rundown of how to jump in, EVE Partner Lynne Rankin has been doing great work covering the event. Alongside the original guide, there is now an updated video to help players catch up on the latest developments and make the most of the final week.

Gallente Elections Extension!

The wider political picture is shifting too. The latest report from the Scope gives a snapshot of where the candidates currently stand as the race tightens, making this a perfect moment to get involved before election day arrives. New Eden News is also a fantastic resource when it comes to learning about what other changes might be coming to New Eden...

If you're looking to try your hand at some of the new content, like the Rampant Drone Fabricator site, Gustav Mannfred has you covered with a comprehensive guide and some chill beats to vibe to. These sites can be very dangerous, though, so don't drop your guard!

7 Anger 7 Games

We’ve already covered Anger Games 7 before, but it absolutely deserves another reminder: it kicks off this weekend at 17:00 UTC

AngerGames7

One of New Eden’s longest-running player-run tournaments is back on the schedule, bringing more high-level team combat, theorycrafting, and spectator-worthy moments to Thunderdome. Whether you follow the competitive scene closely or just enjoy seeing elite pilots push doctrines to the limit, this is one worth tuning in for on the CCP TV Twitch page. There will also be some great rewards not only for those competing, but for those tuning in as well. Wager channel points, get some elusive GalNet StreamCast SKINs

Keep up to date with all the action over on the Anger Games 7 Tournament portal, and may your points always double.

Frigate Free For All!

Also happening this weekend: the Stay Frosty annual Frigate Free For All!

Frigate Free For All 2026

We’ve mentioned it before, but events like this deserve repeating because they are such a good on-ramp for players who want to dip their toes into PvP without the usual pressure. It’s a fantastic place to shake off the nerves, explode gloriously, meet friendly people, and spend a full day just having fun in one of EVE’s most welcoming community events.

If you know someone who keeps saying they want to try PvP “sometime,” this is exactly the kind of sometime they should not miss. Show up to Amamake in an empty pod, follow directions in local for a free ship, and maybe even join up with some NPSI groups or someone from your corp.

Exploring Watercolors

Battle stations deserve to be decorated, and New Eden has a ton of incredibly talented artists. El Geo, otherwise known as Lloyd George, showed off his depiction of the Astero. We're just glad there's no cloak on this one!

Astero Watercolor

If you're looking for some prints - or originals - for yourself or an EVE fanatic, be sure to check out his portfolio!

War is back on the menu!

Big nullsec conflict is back on the menu, with the Imperium declaring war on WinterCo. When the two largest coalitions in the game clash, there's bound to be some crazy action. And New Eden did not disappoint!

This week we saw the first massive battle in the system of Atioth with some of the largest local counts we've ever seen. For players looking to understand the scale and tone of what may be coming, Warlock Industries and Galaxier have put together coverage that is both cinematic and informative. Whether you're new to war or just coming back and watching to catch up on all the crazy action, it is the kind of reporting that helps contextualize the early movements and gives you more of a reason to pay attention and even get involved.

Atioth Fight - Galaxier

Atioth - Warlock Industries

Because this is EVE, no major war stays neatly contained. Even if you are nowhere near the front lines, conflicts like this have a habit of rippling outward through markets, logistics, politics, and the broader mood of the cluster.

Killmails-a-go-go

When fights get huge, standard battlereports can become a bit hard to navigate. But what if there was a different way to visualize a battle? Great news! Flow Gengod recently released a battle report tool, Killmail.app, that presents BRs with a navigable timeline so you can see a snapshot of a fight at any given moment.

For this feature, the Atioth battle report is a great example of what the site does well. It is a slick way to revisit a fight, follow the shape of an engagement, and get a more intuitive read on what actually happened beyond just a wall of losses and totals.

KillmailApp

Flying for a cause

Finally, this weekend also includes a streaming initiative organized by Caroline Aya in support of the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance. NPSI activities, PvE opportunities, and a whole gang of incredibly talented people rallying for a good cause. Quintessential EVE!

ORCA

You can support the cause by joining some of these fleets, or just tuning in and raising awareness throughout the weekend! Community-driven charity efforts always show one of the best sides of New Eden, and this is a good chance to show up, do some good, and back a cause that matters.

That's it for this week! If you're a podcast enjoyer, do check out the latest episode of the New Eden Review Dev Show (NERDS) where we cover some of these in a bit more detail.

Fly safe, and we'll see you soon for EVE Fanfest!
