The Capsuleer Edda – Latest News

Dedicated capsuleers,

At Fanfest 2026, capsuleers will get a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to contribute to the Capsuleer Edda, a cultural and archival project preserving the living history of EVE Online.

Drawing on Icelandic manuscript traditions and saga culture, this historical project translates a digital player-driven universe into a physical object meant to endure. It brings together calligraphy, historical narrative, material experimentation, and symbolic participation.

It is the entire history of the capsuleers of New Eden, written in their own blood, designed to last for millennia.

Did You Say Capsuleer Blood?

Yes. Yes we did. It is a purely symbolic gesture, as blood is not a durable writing material. This manuscript is designed to last, so using pure blood would defeat the purpose. Using some blood will make this more meaningful, however.

Visitors to Fanfest 2026 will be invited to contribute a single drop of blood each, which will be infused with a historically based 17th century ink structure, that is formulated to stand the test of time.

The project is non-clinical in nature, completely voluntary, anonymous, and non-diagnostic. It will be overseen by trained professionals.

All blood samples will be pooled into a single composite material, after which individual samples cannot be separated, contributors cannot be identified, and withdrawal is no longer possible.

Why the Capsuleer Edda?

Human culture increasingly exists online, including social systems, economies, shared history, and forums of self-governance. While many of these spaces may feel permanent, they are not.

They are owned by companies, they change and evolve, and in some cases may disappear.

Human means of preservation have become less and less permanent throughout history. We started by preserving information in stone, which can last millions of years. Then skin, which lasts for millennia. Then paper, digital media, and finally the cloud, each medium solving certain problems but introducing others.

The Capsuleer Edda doesn’t solve digital preservation, nor does it attempt to do so. What it does is take one long-lived digital society and preserve its history in a durable, physical form. The materials and methods have been chosen for longevity.

The tome will be produced on vellum, which has a long history as durable manuscript material. It is ethically sourced, chosen for its archival properties. The point is not to revive lost traditions, but to choose the most durable materials available.

EVE Online has been operating continuously for more than two decades, its open world shaped by capsuleers over time. Few digital spaces can boast this level of continuity, making it uniquely suitable for this kind of cultural reservation.

What’s in the Edda?

The Capsuleer Edda is commissioned by Icelandic authors, writing to reflect the history and shared experience of EVE Online as a digital culture.

The contributing writers are Andri Snær Magnason and Jónas Reynir Gunnarsson. They will preserve capsuleer stories in verse, producing a work of art rather than a purely biographical text. They have been interviewing the EVE community, getting feedback, and scouring the player-driven history of New Eden to inspire and inform their epic poetry.

The manuscript will be hand-written by a professional calligrapher and intentionally left unsigned to reflect historical manuscript traditions, in which scribes documented sagas without credit.

Be a Part of History

More information about the Capsuleer Edda, will be revealed at EVE Fanfest 2026. Guests will also get the opportunity to be a part of the preservation of capsuleer history by donating a drop of blood to the project.

If you have yet to secure your Fanfest ticket, act now, as they are almost sold out.

We look forward to seeing you in Iceland and having you become a part of the Capsuleer Edda.

EVE Evolved: Aura Guidance
news

EVE Evolved: Aura Guidance

Progressive capsuleers,

Today we released the second of three EVE Evolved instalments coming this month, continuing the EVE Forever initiative.

A new Aura Guidance system delivers player-generated knowledge based on real Rookie Help questions and answers in an automated, easy-to-digest way, to help reduce confusion for new pilots.

Aura Guidance is designed to complement, not replace, the human guidance that has long defined EVE. As this is a prototype in a test phase, we are analyzing its performance to help us determine what to keep, what to discard, what to improve, and whether to shut it down or develop it further. Failure is an option.

Addressing Rookie Confusion

EVE Online is a complex game. The complexity is what makes it special but also makes for a harsh first experience. Many players leave before ever reaching the parts of EVE that keep people playing for decades. We know this happens. Understanding exactly where and why has been the hard part.

A decision was made to investigate the use of AI to address this issue, and around Fanfest last year, a dedicated team was formed. The first month was spent purely on identifying problems.

The team’s roots are in healthcare AI, with experience diagnosing diseases from biometric data. Getting those answers wrong has life-altering consequences.

That mindset carries over into this work: be careful, be honest about what you don’t know, and don’t guess.

A core focus has been questions asked by new players because confusion in the first hours can be detrimental to enjoyment and retention. When a player gets stuck and can’t figure out what just happened, that can determine whether they keep playing or log out for good.

Lessons From Rookie Help

The in-game Rookie Help channel has long been one of the most important resources for new pilots. It’s social, human, and often remarkably effective. When we started using it ourselves during research, the quality of answers was better than expected, compared to other games.

To understand where new players struggle, we analyzed Rookie Help chat from January through September 2025. The numbers revealed a lot.

Rookie Chat Stats - EVE Evolved

5.8 million messages were analyzed. 706,000 genuine questions identified. The most frequently asked individual question appeared only 176 times across the entire dataset. That’s 0.025% of all questions.

There is no meaningful “top 20” list of questions that can be solved with a simple FAQ. There are certainly top themes, but the questions themselves vary wildly depending on where you are, what ship you’re in, what the situation is, and how long you’ve been playing. Two players can ask about the same topic and need completely different explanations because their situations are different.

We also found something revealing in the data. The most common questions in Rookie Help, by far, are things like “How do I do that?”, “What is that?”, and “What do you mean?” These are the top questions overall. Players get an answer and still don’t understand it. Someone tells you about low security space and Concord, but you don’t know what lowsec is yet. The answer is technically correct, but it introduces new concepts you’ve never seen before. The confusion just deepens by one layer.

Why Aura Guidance?

EVE already has strong guides, tutorials, and documentation. They are accurate, valuable, and not going anywhere. However, every time a new player alt-tabs to read a guide, there’s a real chance they won’t come back.

We want to keep players in the game. When a question gets answered within the client with links to ships and items, players see things they did not know existed. A new player asking about mining might discover a ship they want to fly right away.

If an answer mentions the fitting window, clicking it highlights it in the client. Rather than just explaining in text, Aura Guidance can guide you through the UI directly. That inspires curiosity, which is a hook, and it only works if the answer shows up where they are already playing.

EVE knowledge is situational. Understanding depends on where you are, what you are flying, and the current situation. Every additional login makes a player more likely to discover the wonders of EVE. We want to help people get to that point.

How Aura Guidance Works

You may have already seen the purple icon floating around. Some of you already spotted leaked feature toggles and the theorycrafting started immediately. We loved reading those theories.

Here’s how it actually works.

Aura Guidance Flow - EVE Evolved

We built a Q&A bank from real Rookie Help conversations. The algorithm goes like this:

  1. Identify a question in Rookie Chat.
  2. Check if the question is general enough to help other players.
  3. Fetch the next 10 messages in the same chat.
  4. Determine if the question got properly answered.
  5. If both checks pass, clean it up: generalize the question and answer, remove player names, links, and tags.
  6. Store the pair in the Q&A bank.

There are tens of thousands of entries in there already.

When a player asks a question through Aura Guidance, we embed their question and match it against this bank. We find the questions closest to player questions with existing answers, from real players and ISD volunteers. Those Q&A pairs are pulled, and a response is synthesized from the retrieved content, enriched with the player’s current context: their location, ship, recent deaths, whether they are docked, and so on.

The player’s actual question is never sent to a language model in its raw form. This is deliberate. It does not stop players from trying to break the system with toxic inputs or prompt injection, but it does make those attempts a lot less effective. We look up similar questions instead and build from those answers.

When the system cannot find a confident match, it does not answer. It redirects players to Rookie Help. This is a feature, and it happens often.

Aura Guidance is not a replacement for Rookie Help.

We want to push people toward asking other players. Typing questions into a public channel for the first time is scary for many people, and we think Aura can help lower that barrier by helping players figure out what to ask.

Aura Guidance is designed for common rookie questions, but being a new player in EVE is not binary. You may have played for 15 years and still be a complete beginner when it comes to mining or wormholes. We think there is potential here for something broader down the road, but we’re starting with solutions for the newest players.

What Aura Guidance Doesn’t Do

Let’s be clear about some things that Aura Guidance intentionally does NOT do: it does not give fleet advice, market strategies, or detailed fitting optimization. It does not help you win fights or earn ISK faster. It does not replace the depth of knowledge you get from experienced players, mentors, or specialized communities. Those limitations are by design.

Safety and Trust

Aura sees limited information about the character asking the question. Only enough to give context-aware answers. What it has access to will expand over time as we learn what players are actually asking about and where the gaps are.

Our background in healthcare AI shapes how we think about safety here. Responses are gated by similarity and confidence thresholds. When the system is uncertain, it says “I don’t know, ask other players.” We would rather redirect to Rookie Help than give a misleading answer.

All responses are built from the vetted Q&A bank. No open-ended generation. No detailed tactical advice. No guaranteed outcomes that could mislead players. And if the system detects questions about exploits or hacks, it doesn’t even attempt to answer.

Have we seen hallucinations? Yes. The system once made up a ship called the Albatross. These things happen with language models. We have tools to retroactively review conversations and catch these issues, and we are using smaller, faster models for detection that keep getting better at flagging problems. This is an ongoing effort, and we are upfront about that.

EVE Evolved: Aura Guidance Dev Chat

On Your Terms

We know AI is a divisive issue among gamers, but to clarify how we see this tool, Aura Guidance does not generate game content, create art, or replace creative work. It is grounded in existing information created by players and ISD volunteers. The responses come from real answers that real people gave in Rookie Help. We are trying to make that accumulated knowledge more accessible at the right moment.

Aura Guidance is optional. You can close it, right-click it away, unpin it from the Neocom, and it doesn’t change how EVE plays. If you prefer to learn through chat, guides, or trial and error, nothing changes for you.

The system is also very lightweight on the client side. One request goes out when you ask a question. All the heavy processing happens off-client in the cloud. No impact on performance, no effect on other services. We went out of our way to ensure that opening Aura during a fight does not bring everything to a soul-crushing halt.

A Prototype by Design

This is an early version. It will have gaps. Some questions will be redirected rather than answered, and some answers will feel overly generic. We are launching it this way on purpose. Those gaps tell us where confusion still exists. Learning what the system does not know is as valuable as learning what it can confidently answer.

How We’re Testing This

To begin with, we’re running Aura Guidance as a controlled A/B test. When a new player creates their first character, they are randomly placed into one of two groups. One group gets full access to Aura Guidance while the other group gets the standard new player experience without it.

After a set period, we compare the two groups. Randomization ensures a fair comparison. We are not measuring how much money players spend or how fast they progress. The only question is: does this help new players stick around?

The results will tell us what to keep, what to improve, and where to go next.

We will evaluate, and if Aura Guidance doesn’t improve retention, we will shut it down and look for other solutions. Failure is acceptable. This is not a silver bullet. The problem we are trying to solve is real, but this particular approach has to earn its place.

Looking Ahead

EVE has always been shaped by players helping players. Aura Guidance is an experiment that tries to support that tradition by reducing early friction and helping new players reach the point where the opportunities of New Eden open up.

We see potential for this to become a kind of “no stupid questions” space. The privacy of your own screen, where you can ask what docking means without raising your hand in a public channel. Where you can get nudged in the right direction and then go figure it out yourself or go ask a real person with a better question in mind.

If it helps even a small number of players push past early confusion and keep exploring New Eden, that is worth trying.

A Note on Environmental Impact

We take the environmental cost of running AI systems seriously. Our architecture is designed to minimize it from the ground up.

Aura Guidance is retrieval-first. There is no open-ended generation, no reasoning chains, or self-reflection loops. Each question gets a single, short answer. We only run small language model variants, and we evaluate new models with energy cost as a factor.

To put the footprint into perspective, even under generous assumptions where every active player sends a question every day, Aura Guidance's annual energy usage would be comparable to running a single small European household for a year. That is a rounding error next to the energy consumed by the game servers themselves.

We want your feedback

We'd love to hear your thoughts on Aura Guidance as we refine it with your feedback. Specifically where it helps, where it goes wrong, and your thoughts in general.

Swing by the EVE Forums or the EVE Discord's Aura Guidance thread.

EVE Creator Awards

Creative Capsuleers,

The EVE Online Community is home to an incredible range of creators who bring New Eden to life in their own ways. Through apps, podcasts, streams, videos, and written content, their work entertains and helps players, shaping how EVE is experienced far beyond the game client.

The EVE Creator Awards are a new way to recognize that impact. They are a celebration of the passion, creativity and dedication creators bring to EVE, and a way to shine a spotlight on their amazing contributions.

Annual Recognition

Creativity in EVE takes many forms, and the EVE Creator Awards are designed to reflect that. From podcasters to streamers, video creators to writers and third-party developers, creators across New Eden will be honored.

EVE Online has always been shaped by its players, and these awards exist to formally acknowledge long-term contributions, creativity, and innovation.

Going forward, the EVE Creator Awards will become an annual tradition at EVE Fanfest, celebrating those who continue to leave their mark on the universe.

How the Awards Work

Public Nominations

The EVE Creator Awards begin with capsuleers. You can nominate your favorite creators in select categories through this form. Nominations are open until mid-March, and every submission helps to highlight the creators who have made the biggest impressions over the last year.

The ceremony will celebrate the past year of community creativity, spotlighting the standout moments and projects. Through curated highlights and on-stage storytelling, we will showcase how content creators have informed, entertained, and united capsuleers across the New Eden. Each category will feature a brief retrospective of the year’s most impactful contributions before the winner is revealed, honoring not just individual excellence but the collective momentum of the creator ecosystem.

The Creator Awards ceremony will take place on 16 May, the final day of EVE Fanfest 2026, in Harpa, Reykjavik. This is a standalone, official event within Fanfest, and will be streamed live on CCPTV.

The winners in each category will receive an award designed to be proudly displayed, serving as a lasting recognition of their contribution to New Eden.

Directors' Letter: 2026 & Beyond
news

Directors' Letter: 2026 & Beyond

Glorious Capsuleers,

Here we are - It’s 2026 and we’re mid-way through development on our next expansion which we’re dying to tell you about. For more details than this letter could possibly contain, check out our most recent dev chat, here:

2026 Dev chat

All in all, it’s shaping up to be a banner year for EVE Online as all-out war comes to lowsec, and the empires come back into focus to pull you into the conflict.

But first…

2025: Redrawing the Foundations of EVE Online

It’s impossible to look ahead without first acknowledging the behemoth year that 2025 was for EVE Online! It was a year of hardening the core experiences of EVE Online: We gave mining and industry some necessary love with Catalyst and saw how quickly the meta shifted with fleet-based mining and new resource strategies. With Legion we connected job seekers and job creators across all New Eden with Freelance Jobs and the introduction of ACLs. You took this system and expanded it wildly beyond our expectations. Last year also saw a huge number of dread brawls testing industrialists and logistical folk alike, and the collapse of Horde is something that will be studied and written about for years to come. And who could forget the DOTLAN-style 2D map?

For a nice recap of the carnage, betrayal and victories from the year, check our most recent Pulse from December and Scope episodes. You made this happen! And we have plenty to build on in 2026.

Let’s get right to it: This year’s Directors' Letter can be summed up with two commitments: Over the next three expansions, we’re going to elevate Factional Warfare into war with real stakes and pull new players into the fight with purpose from day 1. Let’s dive in!

2026 Roadmap V1 Roadmap Copy 1920x1080 - EVE Roadmap

3 Expansions, One Saga:

Things are never quiet in New Eden; somewhere, someone is always on the edge of war. It’s possible to ignore it, but ultimately war shapes everything: economy, politics, borders, relations, and stories. That constant motion is what makes EVE feel alive, and it’s exactly the energy we want to lean into.

Over the next three expansions, we’re going all in on Theaters of War, expanding Factional Warfare and formalizing Military Campaigns as a core part of EVE’s future. These won’t be isolated battles, but living conflicts with clear arcs, goals, escalation, and resolution, unfolding across a single connected narrative over time. This represents a shift in how we build EVE; big ambitions will no longer be something we rush to finish in six months, but rather ideas we introduce, build upon, and refine over several expansions. The result is clearer direction, stronger continuity, and the ability to tackle more complex systems. TL; DR: we’re chasing big ideas with real follow-through.

War Leaves Its Mark Across ALL New Eden

Theaters of War are not limited to the frontlines of low security space. The Empire Wars are felt across highsec and lowsec alike. Just as in player corporations, conflict should create opportunities for all playstyles to contribute. Fighting, industry, logistics, resource gathering, and support all matter, whether you are on the edge of the battlefield or deep within your home territory.

Military Campaigns are designed as storytelling tools. Each one has a beginning, a middle, and an end. They create moments worth committing to, outcomes worth fighting over, and histories worth remembering.

This is not about simplifying war or making it safer. It is about making conflict more meaningful and consequential, so that more players can understand where they stand, how they can contribute, and why individual actions matter. Yes, even those of new capsuleers!

Going Solo? You Are Not Alone

EVE is a social game, even when you play it alone. But breaking the barrier to social play is hard, especially for new capsuleers. For many pilots, flying solo is simply the starting point. We’re going to make it a good one.

This year, we are focusing on giving new players, especially solo and low-confidence pilots, clear purpose and meaningful agency from day one. Military Campaigns are the foundation of that experience: a way for pilots to take on contracts from rival empires and immediately become part of something larger than themselves.

From there, we want to gradually introduce complexity, risk, and opportunity, easing players from solo play into co-existence, co-play, and eventually shared purpose.

We have already been building the social tools to support this journey. Corporation Projects, Freelance Jobs, and access-controlled collaboration allow players to contribute without immediate commitment. These systems act as bridges into the wider universe, helping newer players step forward at their own pace.

Factional Warfare and structured conflict give players purpose, urgency, and belonging. The stories that these wars create are often what convert a curious new player into a lifelong capsuleer.

And the more new players we guide into factional conflict, the more we all win.

War Continues Brewing on The Ground

The stories, conflict, and persistence we all love and know in EVE continue and will be expanded in EVE Vanguard, where development is well underway. It’s a different kind of EVE experience, but one that stays deeply connected to the universe you already know. For example, Vanguard will play a direct role in upcoming Military Campaigns, strengthening the bridge between ground combat and the wider conflicts shaping New Eden.

This year, you’ll also have the chance to jump into a new crossover EVE Online and Vanguard World Event, while continuing to explore the mysteries of Avalon, the culture of Warclones, and combined-arms gameplay.

The experience is already demonstrating a look and feel that stands confidently alongside EVE Online. We’ll continue developing Vanguard with you through open and closed playtests, using your feedback to shape an experience that feels worthy of the EVE franchise. If you want to help us with this evolution, join the Vanguard Discord and wishlist the game on Steam to follow along with the latest news and tests.

A note on dates: Update your calendars, as EVE Vanguard’s Steam Early Access release is moving beyond Summer 2026 — giving us the time needed to deliver a stronger, more fully realized experience for players. More news to come at Fanfest, don’t miss it!

What Else Will 2026 Bring?

2026 will bring two expansions, but it will not be limited to them.

The year begins with EVE Evolved in February, followed by a major update in March, with more updates and events landing throughout the year. Some will arrive inside expansions, others between them, as we continue to evolve the universe with a steady cadence.

EVE Evolved is also a celebration of craft. Alongside gameplay updates, it brings meaningful visual and artistic refinements that elevate how New Eden feels from moment to moment. Our art teams continue to do incredible work, and this update gives some of that work the spotlight it deserves.

Several of New Eden’s most beloved events are also returning, including Capsuleer Day, reimagined to reflect where the universe stands today.

At Fanfest, we’ll celebrate Project Discovery’s 10th anniversary, share more about the vinyl release Past and Future Sounds of New Eden, and welcome back PLEX for Good as an always-on initiative, giving you new ways to support nominated charities. More details on all of this are coming soon.

We’re excited to see many of you at Fanfest and to dig into what’s next together. Until then, tune in to our streams, Discord, and other channels for updates, reveals, and the usual shenanigans.

Community Beat for 1 February

Hello spacefriends and welcome to the (slightly belated) Community Beat! It's been a busy week at CCP HQ with the 12 members of the 20th Council of Stellar Management in town for their annual summit. Although we were locked in a meeting room with them all week long while they were subjected to a battery of informative presentations by various CCP dev teams, we somehow still managed to keep an eye out for interesting things bubbling up in the EVE community which we've collected and curated for you below!

Paint me like one of your Gallente ships

It seems like every Community Beat we've done for the last few months has featured painted minis - not that we're complaining! Although it wasn't uncommon to see people painting homebrew 3D printed models, the arrival of the EVE: War for New Eden board game in people's hands has led to a lot more images like these popping up!

Expanding on the Titans they showed off previously, Shathx from SLYCE has completed painting all the fleets in the game, choosing to hue close (see what I did there?) to the original color of each Empire's liveries:

Check out this album on Imgur featuring dozens more pics of Shathx's work!

On the subject of painted minis, at this point it seems almost obligatory to feature something from Watson Crick of A Band Apart who has been sharing his work for some time now. Charting a different course from Shathx, Watson has instead opted to base his paint schemes for this selection of medium sized hulls on various SKIN lines available in the game. These look fantastic, but am I the only one who can't not see the googly eyes on the Bellicose Blue Tiger SKIN? 🤔

Want to ship spin but EVE is kill?

Since the dawn of civilization our species has craved one simple thing - a way to spin EVE ships outside the client. Thanks to EstamelGG you can do just that with their EVE Model Gallery - a simple, minimalist site where you can view practically any 3D model in EVE from your browser. It's great for thoughtful ponderance of the excellent 3D assets in EVE, getting screenshots for your own projects or sharing pics of your favorite ship. Here's mine!

Blockbuster weekly rentals

Well known EVE market guru, content creator and CSM member The Oz has begun a new Zero to Omega Station Trading Challenge for 2026. The idea is to earn his way to Omega using only a single account with 3 alpha characters on it. Along the way viewers will learn a lot about the tools and techniques players like Oz use to unlock the potential of EVE Online's unique player-run market.

Episode 1: Zero to Omega - Station Trading Only (2026)

Another video to land in our lap this week was this one from Ra-Horakhty M'aat of Shadow Cartel in which they, along with WinterCo and other allies, drop on and kill an Initiative Erebus in Initiative's own staging system.

Phrozen Phantasm

We recently hosted an art contest with our friends at Just titled Frozen Space and invited creators to make art inspired by EVE's Winter Nexus event. There were a bunch of great submissions but there can only be one winner and it was this chilly Phantasm watercolor by Arian:

Check out some of the other great winning entries on the Frozen Space competition page!

New Eden never looked so pretty

Is it cheating to include content from an EVE developer? Long before he was known as CCP Aperture he was Razorien and was renowned for his ability to capture the beauty of EVE in uniquely stunning screenshots which he would share on his popular Flickr page. He's recently updated his portfolio with hundreds of new pictures from various events he's attended in the past several months, including all three timers from the Bubble Bath of R-AG7W, the recent battle over a Fortizar in PPG-XC and the celebration of the life of a departed capsuleer which was the cyno vigil for Imperium and Goonswarm luminary Innominate.

I do declare

EVE Online's longest running podcast Declarations of War have dropped their first episode of 2026 in which they announce the results of their annual Black Mark Awards for 2025 and discuss a bunch of other hot topics. You can listen to the whole podcast on their website or just the Black Mark Awards segment on Youtube below. They're on Spotify, too!

That's all for this Community Beat! See you again in a couple of weeks. o7

Masterful capsuleers,

A first iteration on the Mastery Packs, which were introduced last year, has arrived in the EVE Store, offering you the final boost to complete your training or pivot into uncharted territory.

The Mastery Pack offerings have been updated to include recent changes made to MCT cost and now feature content of Undock, Afterburn and Warp boost bundles, which means they include more SP and the best Accelerator.

As a result, some prices have been changed, but the packs offer more value for money – up to 40% savings – and will be available at any time.

Along with the pack refresh, the purchasing count has been reset, so those who got last year’s packs can purchase these again. As before, the packs can be purchased once per account in each store, including resellers, and will arrive in the New Eden Store soon.
